ЛИСЬИ ГОРЫ
Группа небольших холмов, начинающаяся в 5 км к северо-западу от заповедника «Аркаим» и простирающаяся на север на протяжении около 20 км. Отметки высот Лисьих гор – 360-400 м над уровнем моря.
Название упоминается в разговорной речи местных жителей. С их слов, горы названы так за обилие лисьих нор.
В геологическом отношении представляют собой глубоководные вулканические постройки возрастом в 400 млн. лет (в геологической хронологии – девонский период). Сложены горы андезит-базальтами, которые рассечены кварцевыми красноцветными яшмами (гематит-кварцевыми жилами). Эти горные породы хороши для изготовления разнообразных учебных коллекций и сувениров.
Кроме яшмы, здесь присутствуют рудопроявления марганца, железа, золота.
В начале ХХ века в районе Лисьих гор бельгийская компания добывала золото из мелких шурфов. Сотни выработок нарушили рельеф пологого увала, что создавало неудобства для распашки земель.
В районе Лисьих гор находится комплекс археологических памятников: неукрепленные поселения эпохи бронзы, курган раннего железного века, одиночный менгир. В долине Лисьих гор расположен комплекс памятников «Калмыцкая молельня», состоящий из обширного поселения и могильника.
Здесь можно встретить множество колоний сурков, гнездовий жаворонков.
Одна из вершин на севере Лисьих гор, стала излюбленным местом современных посетителей для совершения «денежных» ритуалов и получила новое имя – гора Банк.
THE LIS’YI (FOXY) MOUNTAINS
A group of small hills that emerges in 5 km to the north-west from the Arkaim reserve and stretches to the north for some 20 km. Elevations of the Lis’yi Mountains reach 360-400 meters above the sea level.
The toponym is occasionally used by local residents. They say, it is due to the abundance of fox dens.
From the geological standpoint, these mountains represent submarine volcanic structures of 400 million years of age (the Devonian period). They are formed by basaltic andesites intersected by quartzy red-colored jasper (hematite-quartz veins). These mountain rocks are good for making various school collections and souvenirs.
Apart from jasper, you can find ore manifestations of manganese, iron, and gold.
In the beginning of the 20th century, a Belgian company was mining gold in shallow shafts of the Lis’yi Mountains. Hundreds of mines disrupted the landscape of the low-sloped elevation, which was rather inconvenient for farming.
In the Lis’yi mountains area, there is a complex of archaeological sites: non-fortified settlements of the Bronze Age, a kurgan of the early Iron Age, a stand-alone menhir. In the Lis’yi mountains valley, there is a monumental complex called “Kalmyk Praying House” that consists of a spacious settlement and a burial site.
Here you can find numerous groundhog colonies, and sparrow nests.
One of the mountains’ tops in the north became a favourite place for performing “money” rituals among many present-day visitors, and thus acquired a new nickname, the Bank Mountain.
